However, some portability problems might still require manual adaptation during the intallation process. Details are given in the Installation Guide. 3. The changes for AAPP version 5, compared with version 4, are detailed in the Product Specification (NWPSAF-MO-DS-006.pdf) and Top Level Design (NWPSAF-MO-DS-007.pdf). 4. AAPP Version 5.1 contains all modules for the processing of TOVS and ATOVS data to level 1b, 1c and 1d, and for mapping AVHRR data onto the HIRS data grid. Both TOVS and ATOVS modules have been tested with space based data. Examples of HRPT data are included in the distribution, along with output results to allow users to compare with their own test. 5. For AAPP V5, some additional documents have been added (compared with V4). These are: - An appendix to the Scientific Description, providing more detailed information on navigation. - AAPP Version 5 Top Level Design document - AAPP Version 5 Product Specification In addition, selected parts of the AAPP-5 Test Folder have been provided, to allow the user to have access to detailed test results. 6. Before you start building AAPP version 5 it is recommended that you consult the Installation Guide, which contains detailed instructions. 7. Any comments and proposals for improvements are welcome. Please use the NWP-SAF feedback form, available from the AAPP web site at http://nwpsaf.eu/web-test/deliverables/aapp/index.html The CD-ROM contains this release note and the following directories: 1. AAPP_5/ contains the AAPP package version 5.1 including the software modules and the required data files. It also contains file README.INS which provides a description of Imake and the installation script (supplementing the information in the Installation Guide). 2. DOCS/ contains a set of AAPP documentation, as listed above under "Applicable Documents". 3. HRPTDATA/ contains HRPT data files for NOAA-14, NOAA-16 and NOAA-18. The NOAA-14 and NOAA-16 files are the same as those distributed with AAPP version 4.0. 4. INSTGUID/ contains the Installation Guide. The Installation Guide consists of a set of HTML files that are linked to each other. The guide should be readable by means of any web-browser. Start at the cover page COVER.HTM from where you get to the Table of Contents which allows you to access any page directly. 5. INST_LOG/ contains the standard output and standard error files from the installation process, for different computer systems and compilers. Also included are the ATOVS_ENV files for the Met Office HP and linux systems. 6. TEST_FOLDER_AAPP5/ contains the AAPP V5 Test Plan (document NWPSAF-MO-TV-011.pdf), the Test Log (NWPSAF-MO-TV-011.html) and a zipped tar file that when unpacked contains various subdirectories containing scripts, data and log files. File README.TF describes how to unpack the folder. Note: Some types of CD-ROM burning software append a version number ";1" (and ".;1" if the file name has no suffix) at the end of each file name. This appendix is not visible on most systems. If you can see it on your system then strip it off by renaming the files. Note: Most of the file names on the AAPP V5 CD-ROM have capital letters. Nevertheless, on some systems, it may happen that you see the names with small letters. Take this into account when following the instructions of the installation guide where the files are referenced with capital letters.
