NEDT values in ATOVS BUFR products from 22 November 2017

You have probably seen the following announcement from EUMETSAT:

Some centres are asking what they have to do in response. The main change that you need to be aware of is that EUMETSAT will be using BUFR master table version 26 (because earlier tables do not have the 0-33-089 descriptor that is used for warm target NEDT).

If you are using the BUFRDC library, you need to make sure that files B0000000000000026000 and D0000000000000026000 are present in your $BUFR_TABLES directory. These BUFR tables are part of BUFRDC release 409, or alternatively you can copy them from file bufrdc_tables-4.1.1-Source.tar.gz, available at https://software.ecmwf.int/wiki/display/BUFR/BUFRDC+Home.

If you are using a recent release of ecCodes (v2.0.0 onwards), the BUFR tables will already be present.

It should not be necessary to make any changes to the AAPP decoding routine. AAPP version 7.15 already supports the new BUFR sequence (it stores NEDT values within the .l1c file structure), while older versions of AAPP should just ignore the extra information.
